More Dwarf and Hors Série Greens

Some of you may have heard me hint at a Zweihänder sergeant figure that might swell the ranks and allow you more easily to build even numbered units from the existing packs. Well, here is Serge, displaying the particular talent that allowed him to step from the rank and file and take a more prominent role in the regiment. I'm particularly fond of the look of utter happiness that John managed to put on his face (despite the beard). Sculpted by John Pickford as usual.

And finally, one more dwarf that will be included in the next release, though it will be added to the Hors Série range as it was not made as part of the actual dwarf range (though it scales perfectly with them). This one was sculpted by LordWriggly over on Bugman's Brewery and will delight those who have been yearning to add a female touch to their unit of pikewarfs. This spearmaiden is just the ticket.

To conclude this update, the next release will also include the long awaited duck... with friends (Evil Duck, Sallet Duck, Bishop Duck, Wizard Duck and Landsknecht Duck).

And a small reminder of the scale of the duck(s):

Dwarf Zweihänder Greens - Part 3

With only a couple hours before sending the figures off to the mouldmaker for productionmoulding, I found myself with the choice to duplicate one of the bodies in the unitfiller set or make a set of 3 with 4 heads.

Or I could use the flambergé sword from one of the other figures and attempt a small conversion to create a minor variant...

Dwarf Zweihänder Greens - Part 2

The good news is the second half of the Zweihänder set is ready and off to be mastermoulded. The bad news is most of the pictures I took of them before they left turned out pretty bad. Still, bad pictures are better than no pictures,  so I will shown them to you anyway, as I think the models are very good.

I'll start with my favourite of this bunch, he of the hat with many feathers. The flambergé type sword makes a nice change from the others and looks very good.

The next one mirrors the previous pose, though doesn't look quite as heroic. It takes all sorts.

The third and final rank and file figure is another body variant for the unitfiller pack, with two new heads.

The Zweihänder come with full command (their captain was included in the first batch). The standardbearer is carrying a small sword, which is resting casually on his shoulder (sharp side up of course).

We tend to associate bagpipes with the Scottish, but in truth they were pretty common in Western Europe during the landsknecht era.

Finally, something whimsical, which may or may not end up in the "Hors Série" range, a small duckling with a landsknecht hat, made by John as an in joke. It's really tiny, as can be seen from the picture.

Dwarf Zweihänder Greens - Part 1

I've been sitting on these for a while now (a few months at least), hoping to share the whole set at once, but one can only be expected to sit one's own pool of froth for so long before cracking. So without further ado, here is the first half of a set of elite dwarf infantry: the Zweihänders. They are all equipped with plate armour, a greatsword that's taller than they are, and a handweapon in it's scabbard. And big floppy hats of course. As always, they are sculpted by the talented John Pickford.

First of, the unit champion. As befits his status, he has the biggest feather. I really like this pose a lot (which is a tribute to the old marauder ogre with greatsword).

Next, a couple of unit fillers:

I call these unitfillers because of their relatively static poses and the possibility to swap heads around (also with those from other sets).

Talking about unitfillers supposes there are also non-unitfillers, which are some one piece dwarfs. As it's an elite unit, fewer variants are required, so it was the occasion to include some more varied poses and do away with the limitations imposed by the multipart nature of the other figures.

The first one is at the ready...

... while the second one is not afraid to take the fight to the enemy.

The next batch will include the rest of the command set and a few more poses and variants for the unit.
